With the CSTS coming up, I decided its time to make the Kaylee costume I've been thinking about for a while. I started off with the coverall. I was surprised how challenging it was to find an olive drab coverall. At the Army surplus store, they had coveralls, but just in blue. Several stores said they'd have the coveralls in the fall for hunting season, but that wasn't going to do me any good now. The sixth store I went to was Sears and there was a whole wall of coveralls in a wide range of colors. They were on sale, too! w00t for Sears! I threw the coveralls in the washing machine through several cycles, hoping to fade them a bit. Apparently the coveralls were higher quality than I expected and they haven't faded yet. Oh well, guess I'll have Kaylee's newer coveralls. Maybe she bought them with her share of the Ariel job. Next I headed out to JoAnn's to get the iron on decals. The very handy costume site "Maggie's Costume Site" had very detailed instructions on what decorations are on Kaylee's overalls. www.costumersguide.com/maggie_costumes/kaylee_makingof.htmlI couldn't find the exact teddy bear, but that's okay. I'm not worried about making a perfect replica. The teddy bear I did find is very cute. I'm also going to put two little strawberries next to the bear.

Here are pics of the main decorations for the coveralls. s48.photobucket.com/albums/f243/greencat336/Kaylee%20costume/I'm working on Kaylee's necklace. In the screen caps it looks like a single oblong pink bead with some decorations painted on it. Maybe vines and flowers? After searching through many, many beads, I couldn't find anything exactly like it. Instead, I found some pink glass beads that have little splatters of paint on them that were similar. I strung three of them together and I think it works okay. I don't have any workboots and I'm not willing to go buy some, so I'm just going to wear some brown tennis shoes. The jacket that Maggie's costume site suggests is very expensive, $80. Definitely more than I'm willing to spend. No jacket for Kaylee. I'm going back and forth on the umbrella. I still have a little while before CSTS to contemplate if I want to search for someplace selling chinese umbrellas, spend the money, and paint it.
